Can a faulty 30 amp power cord on a generator result in "fried" electric appliances?

The generator produces 120-130 amps from the panel outlets. I haven't checked the 30 amp power cord yet (I guess I should). When I plug in anything beyond a light bulb to the power cord outlet box(has 4 outlets) I hear a pop and the plugged in item no longer functions. Any suggestions. I checked the internal wiring in the outlet panel and didn't see anything that looked like worn or cut wires.
The outlet I am plugging into say 120/220 volt. I assume that this means I can plug 120 volt appliances into that outlet using a 30 amp power cord???

are you using the 220 volt out let ? that will blow any thing you plug in to it, if its 110 volt
its voltage not amperage, on the outlets
look for a 120 volt plug in
and if a cord was bad it wouldn't work, does the cord twist and lock in the outlet? if so you have it in the 220 volt hole
