The technology offering mobile applications on GM cars is expanding so that owners of 2011 Chevrolet, Buick, Cadillac or GMC will be able to control functions of their cars from their phones. Earlier this year, mobile applications were announced for Chevy Volt only.

OnStar is going to extend the applications for GM vehicles and customize them for the customers. The applications will be brand specific and owners can activate the functions available to them, such as remote start, lock and unlock doors, horn and lights using their smartphones. Such applications will be able to provide information on the level of fuel, remaining oil life, tire pressure and average of miles per gallon.

The OnStar communication system on GM cars has been perceived as too invasive, due to the publicity related to a carjacking in California when OnStar disabled the gas pedal of the car. General Motors have equipped its vehicles with Stolen Vehicle Slowdown feature since 2009. OnStar can slow down a stolen car or deactivate ignition through the Remote Ignition Block.

However, the possibility of helping the police track down stolen vehicles has made some customers question the way OnStar can use the information obtained about the cars whose owners are subscribed to their service.

OnStar however, claimed that the customers have misunderstood the way connection is ensured with the subscribers' vehicles. OnStar does not monitor continuously the location of the vehicles and customers can decide whether they need the subscription to these services or opt out.

Customers should not be worried that information obtained by OnStar is sold to FBI or CIA or other parties, according to OnStar representatives. OnStar stated that they do not get information about the speed of the vehicle from the speedometer and do not offer information to law enforcement agencies to issue speeding tickets.

They also stated that in-vehicle conversations are not listened to without the occupants being noticed beforehand. Anybody who is concerned about the way OnStar handle information about their vehicles can decide to not subscribe to their service.

OnStar services are available only on General Motors and Saab Automobile vehicles. There are more than five million subscribers to this service. Drivers who have subscribed to the service can use the audio interface to communicate with OnStar representatives in emergencies, to obtain vehicle diagnosis or directions.

The type of service offered by OnStar is a safety tool that can be compared with seatbelts or airbags. GM started offering this service as a safety tool in 1996. It was meant as an alternative to using your cell phone in an emergency situation. Phone applications are being developed nowadays and the range of service is wider, including help in finding out about weather, traffic, a local restaurant or getting latest stock quotes.

While most users are satisfied with OnStar service, the invasion of privacy remains an issue for others. The data collected is meant to be used by the car manufacturer to improve safety and other features, nevertheless other uses could cause concern among the GM customers.

i have bought 2x15" subwoofer & 4x 6"x9" speaker pairs so how to?

You can buy or get from a library books about speaker enclosures. First, find the working resistance rating (often four or eight ohms) and make sure the drivers on any given circuit match, or set up separate amplifiers for each set of speakers. The wattage given is usually the amount that should not be exceeded, or they may blow-out. If you have about half or maybe 80% of that , they will be loud enough to make your ears ache.
