Of course, even the stock BMW 5 series audio system is head and shoulders above many custom automotive sound systems. Standard BMW 5 series stereos and BMW X5 audio systems have earned high praise from prestigious websites such as Edmunds, Kelley Blue Book and Cars.com as well as high-profile publications like Car and Driver and Motor Trend. Even the BMW Z3 audio system has scored high marks among members of the automotive community - no mean feat for an open convertible.

So - what does one do when the best isn't good enough?

If your standards as an audiophile are impossibly high, you'll be happy to know that there are many BMW 5 Series audio upgrades available, as well as for other BMW models. If you are fortunate enough to own a new vehicle with the one of the latest BMW 5 series stereos or a state-of-the-art BMW X5 audio system by Harman-Kardon, this may be less of an issue for you. However, if you own an older - but still serviceable - Z3 built prior to 2006, you'll still find numerous BMW Z3 audio system upgrades available.

The best part is that even the more expensive BMW 5 Series audio system upgrade still costs under $600 - and many can be had for substantially less. These include elaborate systems that you'd be well advised to have installed professionally as well as simple "plug-and-play" BMW 5 Series stereos with coaxial speakers that can be mounted anywhere in the vehicle.

The 10-inch form factor of the iPad is too big to pocket. It could replace a Kindle, but it requires both a data plan (Kindle comes with lifetime data for free) and a secondary power source if it's to last as long as a Kindle does. It has no phone features -- and even if it had a camera, it is really too big to use as a camera. In short, I could imagine replacing my smartphone with the Dell(Inspiron 1300 battery) Mini 5, but I can't yet figure out what I would replace with the iPad, and I already carry a smartphone, laptop and Kindle.

For once the hype is matched by reality because the keys feel great to the touch, have a wonderfully positive action and are very well spaced, making typing on the Edge a genuine joy. The 3165dx has a solid assortment of ports and connections, but thanks to some sealed up ports on the sides, we can see it's missing some options like a modem, TV tuner, and mini-FireWire port. The inclusion of an eSATA/USB combo port and an HDMI out port are welcome, especially the latter since the 3165dx has a Blu-ray combo drive. There's also a proprietary HP expansion port (for connecting to an HP docking station). The laptop has integrated 10/100 Ethernet and 802.11n Wi-Fi; however, it lacks Bluetooth--about the only real let down with its connection options.

Still, our display looked good both when computing and playing back videos and games, although to its credit, the Asus(Eee PC 701 Battery) U50F, at only $649, looked equally good to our eyes. As always, Toshiba's speakers are decidedly better than average. The stereo Harman Kardon speakers on the A505--6025 are louder than nearly any other laptop we've recently reviewed and have well-defined bass, a rarity. We won't give this laptop a pass thanks to its speakers alone, but they help justify the relatively higher price.

Finally, for IT professionals, the new ProBooks come with Central Management for HP(HP NX6120 Battery) ProtectTools, which allows for remote functionality so IT folks can deploy and manage security policies across an entire business, with user and user type management, monitoring and auditing capability, and recover access.

Is BMW's E46 Harman Kardon stereo better than Sony's CDX-F5700?

I'm about to purchase a 2004 BMW 330ci convertible with a Harman Kardon stereo. In my current car, I have a Sony CDX-F5700 (http://tech.yahoo.com/ps/sony-cdx-f5700/1991398705). Should I replace the Harman Kardon with the Sony? Or is the Sony stereo better? Thanks!

Keep the Harman Kardon, its by far better than sony!!!!! Harman Kardon is a excellent audio company, its owned by JBL. Its right up there with Bose.
