Does putting cotton in speaker boxes make the sound more "Bassy"?

i really love bass but i want more boom plz tell me

It stops the sound waves from echoing through the speaker box. It makes for a more smoother bass, but I've found you get more bass without it.The person below me is an idiot, you NEVER want to over power the subs... Also cotton will NOT hurt the subs from it being in the encloser.
