Featured Article: Satellite Radio Kit:

By now, everyone knows about Sirius and XM radio. The services come with a free trial on nearly every new car sold, and aftermarket satellite radio kits drastically outsell standard FM radios. The benefits of satellite radio are the lack of commercials and the wealth of specialty programming. There are multiple channels of every genre of music, from the twang of bluegrass banjo picking to the hard hitting lyrics of gangsta rap.
You can tune into Christian talk radio or comedy routines that would be edited down to prepositions before they would be allowed to air over regular broadcast radio. And along with this wealth of programming comes an amazing continuity of service that only satellite radio can provide. You can drive all the way across the country listening to a single station, getting crystal clear reception in areas where a cell phone doesn't have a chance of working.
Subscription costs are reasonable, available at monthly or annual levels, and now, with the release of Xact satellite radios, the hardware itself is available for under $50. And yes, those are American dollars. For under $50 you can buy an Xact Sirius radio that doesn't even have to be installed in-dash. The Xact Visor clips right onto your car's sun visor. Even if you opt to purchase a more traditional model, with an in-dash installation kit, an Xact radio is a fantastic choice.
They are reasonably priced and very easy to install. You can have them professionally installed at any auto audio center, or you can choose to do the job yourself with self installation kits. They come in a variety of sizes so you are sure to find one that fits your own personal wattage requirements.
And Christmas is a great time to find Xact satellite radios on sale, either for yourself or someone special. The recipient doesn't have to be a music-blaring teenager to appreciate a gift of a satellite radio. Mothers and fathers will enjoy stations of their own choosing as they drive those boring hours to and from work each day, and children will enjoy kids' programming as they are taxied to school, daycare or soccer matches!

Satellite Radio Care Tips
The satellite radio is quickly garnering market share from old standbys, FM and AM. Only two service providers, XM and Sirius, the only real choice you have to make is which model to purchase and how much to pay. Road to XM and Sirius can have a few potholes, aggravating problems that may cause you to toss your Roadies out of the car window. We have few tips to help pave that road.
Always try refreshing the activation of your radio by going to the XM or Sirius websites and hitting refresh signal. Do check with customer service to make sure the radio has been properly activated. Sometimes the request doesn't get processed right away.
Always check your antenna and make sure it's connected to the proper input on the radio and can get a clear signal. Try to check the cable and connector for damage. Your radio won't receive a signal if you're in a garage or other area where the signal is blocked.
Do set your radio, in most cases to Channel 1, so it can acquire the stations from the satellite. Try to check to see if there's fringe interference from a nearby radio station, in this case, you'll hear either static from the station or voices and music will be heard faintly in the background. Numerous satellite radios are equipped with RF modulators, which use FM frequencies to deliver sound through your car's speakers. Always test the radio with several unused FM frequencies to find the clearest channel. If you get a weak signal and you're sure there's no interference, try relocating the antenna. Do use the car's cassette player to connect to your sound system. Unluckily not all brands of satellite radio come with a cassette adapter, but they're pretty easy to get. Only plug it into the audio out jack of your radio and pop the end with the cassette into the player. Always test your receiver with a home kit. When all of your stations come through loud and clear, there could be a problem with the RF modulator. Therein that case exchange the radio for a new one. Do check to see if your radio is locked, this may be the case if you can't change stations and a "lock" signal is displayed on the radio. We can turn this off on some radios by pressing the Mute/Pause/Lock button. When your radio doesn't have this, or it doesn't solve the problem, unlock it by inserting the end of a paper clip into the radio's reset hole.
Always reset the radio by inserting the end of a paper clip into the radio's reset hole to alleviate problems if the back light of the radio doesn't turn off or on or the radio's display doesn't change.

What do I need to hook up satellite radio?
I have a satellite ready head unit and I would like to get Sirius Satellite radio, but I am not sure what I need. Do I need a Sirius Satellite receiver or just a tuner since my head unit is satellite ready? Do I need a car kit? I know I will have to subscribe to Sirius. I am just wondering what I need to get it up and running, Thank you!
I have a Pioneer deh-p610bt
If your head unit is truly satellite ready, you should just need to subscribe (if the tuner is in the radio...it should have a button for Sirius on it if it is) or if it's just "ready" for satrad, you need a tuner and antenna. Best Buy shows these, but so does www.myradiostore.com. What make and model is your radio?
